“At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but
they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.” Daniel 6:4
God shows us clearly in the life of Daniel how darkness attacks light. This passage is a great example of John 3:20. “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
At this Because the righteous are being recognized and exalted
and evil is not allowed to fulfill their lusts, action must be taken.
Administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for
charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs
Here we see the coalition of evil. Both administrators (Daniel’ peers) and satraps (Daniel’s direct reports) unite to find a reason to bring Daniel down. Don’t lose sight of the magnitude of the hunt. 2 of the top 3 senior executives and the top 120 middle managers in the kingdom are behind this witch hunt. They want to prove Daniel is as corrupt as they are and therefore is not worthy to be promoted over them. Note where they look. They check on all his actions in his role as an administrator – where did he break or bend the rules for his own benefit or do something to curry political favor? Where did Daniel profit instead of the king? They looked deep into Daniel’s history, not just under Darius rule but in his role with Nebuchadnezzar as well. Their search is exhaustive.
But they were unable to do so The Bible says “be sure your sins will find you out”. In Daniel’s case there is nothing to find. When Daniel purposed in his heart “he would not defile himself” early in his career, he applied the concept to everything he did for all the years he lived.
They could find no corruption in him There were no grounds found to accuse Daniel. His detractors looked for anything, even the minute, but could find to accuse him – zilch, nada.
Because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent Here we find Daniel’s testimony as dictated by the Holy Spirit. These are not the words of a human author but of the Spirit of God who does not lie. Note the 3 areas the Holy Spirit lists. Imagine receiving this testimony at the Bema Seat of Christ. It is earned minute by minute, day after day just obeying the Lord.
Trustworthy The word means faithful. Danie did what was excepted of him and he did it consistently. It is what we hear from the Lord, “it is required of a steward to be found faithful”.
Not corrupt Corruption is hidden evil. There was no hidden sin or evil in Daniel’s actions, no skeletons in his closet.
Not negligent There was no fault nor anything amiss in what he did (including what he said). The word is used in Ezra 4:22 “And take care not to be slack in this matter.” There was no slackness or carelessness in what Daniel’s life.
What can we learn? I Timothy 3:2 says an elder is to be above reproach. There is to be no action in their life the world can use to accuse him of being a hypocrite and by implication to blaspheme the Lord. Daniel was not perfect but he was blameless (without reproach) from others (Job 1:1). To be blameless means one’s life is so righteous that no one can bring a public charge against them.
