“And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever, just as you saw that a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold.”
Daniel 2:44-45
Nebuchadnezzar’s head must have been reeling. Four world kingdoms, his was the greatest but it would not last. Then the last kingdom is a strange mixture of brittle and harsh. Does it last? The most important part of his dream is yet to come. Daniel describes the final act of God’s dream.
And in the days of those kings God shows us the end of the time of the Gentiles as the image is now rules by the ten kings (toes). The God of heaven will set up a kingdom At that time the living God of the Universe intervenes and establishes a kingdom. God Himself will establish His kingdom on earth.
That shall never be destroyed Unlike the four world kingdoms of
Man, God’s kingdom is eternal – without end. His is an eternal state.
Nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. God’s kingdom
will never be destroyed and never be replaced by another kingdom or ruler.
It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms All the major world kingdoms Nebuchadnezzar saw in the image, including Babylon, will be broken, shattered, crushed and completely destroyed.
And bring them to an end Man’s rule on earth ends. Man’s attempt to rule the world opposed to God is over. None of man’s kingdoms will rise from the ashes. Satan’s rebellion to God and attempt to steal and rule God’s creation is judged and is finished.
And it shall stand forever God’s kingdom arises and will stand forever – time without end.
Just as you saw Daniel reminds Nebuchadnezzar God gave him this dream. God revealed to him what He is going to do. This is truth direct from heaven to the king and us.
That a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand Daniel reminds the king this is God’s plan. No man did or could do this. A stone appears from God in the sky. This stone is the “The stone the builders rejected. It is the cornerstone of God’s kingdom.” (Psalm 118:22)
And that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold Nebuchadnezzar wondered about the future. Remember the king “lay in his bed and thoughts came of what would be after this”. It is good to ponder eternity. Itv should raise many questions. Where will we spend it? What will last? What will be burned up? Neither Nebuchadnezzar nor his kingdom will last, others will follow him but they will not last either. This is the best Satan’s and man’s evil world rule will ever be. (Evolution is always downward.)
All things, every thing, will be destroyed and nothing of man’s will remain except those who are in God’s kingdom.
That truth should have brought Nebuchadnezzar to his knees. Before God, his question should have been “what must I do to enter God’s kingdom?” Knowing the future, knowing Biblical prophecy, is not valuable unless it moves one’s heart to meet the living and true God. God honored the thoughts of the king and answered his questions. Daniel told him what God’s dream meant. Here is the key. If one is not in God’s kingdom he or she will not last. No king or kingdom can promise eternity – God alone can.
